Peoples' State of the Union

On Saturday, January 28, 2017  residents of Albuquerque shared their stories in response to the following topics:

  • Share a story about something you have experienced that gave you insight into the state of our union

  • Share a story about a time you felt a sense of belonging—or the opposite—to this nation

  • Share a story about a time you broke through a barrier to connect with someone different from yourself or with whom you disagreed.

Three minutes stories were shared in circles of 8-12 people who carefully listened to each other and then engaged in constructive dialogue about what they heard, how they responded, and what they feel.  With permission, these stories appear on the Story Portal of the US Department of Arts & Cuture website.

Check them out here.

We want to extend our warmest thanks to Arlene Goldbard, Chief Policy Wonk of the USDAC, who spent the morning training local artists about how to conduct the story circles.

We also want to deeply thank the community members who made this such a powerful and constructive afternoon.
