Int'l District Youth
Artist Team 2018-2019

Artful Life has been working with Albuquerque’s International District (ID) community since 2011.

In order to cultivate the next generation of community artists and engaged citizens, Artful Life is currenty working with young neighborhood artists who are creating art where they live.

In the fall of 2018, Artful Life began working together with students at the Cesar Chavez Community School, in Albuquerque's International District, to create another work of art in the Trumbull Village neighborhood.

Under the guidance of teachers Laurie Ihm and Monique Montoya and visiting artist Haley English/Greenfeather Arts, the students distributed neighborhood surveys (online and in-person) and used the results to decide on a theme for a mural that was installed in 2019 on the west-facing side of the 999 Seafood Market, near the intersection of Palomas Street and Gibson Boulevard (see right).

With new owners of 999, the mural has now been removed, but you can see images of the mural here.

This project was funded by the McCune Charitable Foundation, New Mexico Arts, and the Albuquerque Community Foundation--we're so grateful for their support.  Our warmest thanks to the Cesar Chavez  Community School and the 999 Seafood Market for providing space for the team to work.
